2007
was a year of ups and downs. Evans first Grand Am Koni Challenge
race at Miami-Homestead got off to a great start and a decent finish.
He was driving the GSM Motorsports GTi. They were leading
for a good part of the race, had a great pit stop and were poised
for a great finish but a few cars got in the way. A pit speed
infraction put them to the rear of the field half way through but
they battled up to 5th and got into a tussle with an RX8 and a Subaru.
7th place still is pretty good though!
The next pro race was at Mazda Laguna Seca in a Roar Racing RX8.
Evan was helping to get the car set up and was asked to drive.
The car had a differential fail in the first session so a stock
unit was installed (normally it has a full race unit) hurting laptimes.
Evan and his co-driver were able to run the car from the
back of the pack up to 13th. Another Subaru tried to stop
them with the worst dive bomb pass ever but it did not hurt the
car too much just cosmetic damage.
The
3rd race was to be at Lime Rock Park Conneticut in the GSM Motorsports
VW GTi. The car was ready and it was Evan's first time there.
This is a short and very fast track. The car was great just needing
a few tweaks here and there. The new co-driver got in the
car and promptly smashed it into the front straight wall ending
the weekend and the season for that car. The car is fixed
and ready for action next season with your help! Stay tuned
in here and on Speed Channel for some great racing action in 2008!
Here is the preliminary Koni Challenge schedule. I am hoping
they will add Laguna Seca back on there and maybe some more west
coast venues but time will tell!

Fireball Run
This
was a great media event done by Evan and Joe LaMagularia at Gaywheels.com.
They raced across the country in a Saab 9-3 Aero convertible
for missing children. This was a great event bringing awareness
to the organizations that help missing children and the families
of the missing children. There is alot of media surrounding
this event so I will just give you the links to see!

Other Media
There
are many articles on Evan out there from Echelon Magazine, Out
Magazine, The Advocate, The Miami Herald, Auto Week and many more.
A Google search of Evan Darling turns up some good stuff!
